I think the author is just quite blunt about the diversity of species. In most other novels, they may describe the ‘beasts’ as being really grand but realistically they’ve all got the base design of a known animal, or maybe two to three animals. Even a Western dragon could be described as a mix between lizard, snake and bat. The world building would really help though. For a long while at the start i was really confused on what a ‘totem’ is. Maybe i missed the specific sentence that described it or something.

Totems are Quasi Mythical Beasts but a lot of people call them Totems because of the Totem Era we're people were enslave by them also here is the ranking system.. Also quasi means halfstep(almost achieved) Rankings: (1-10 Levels) Awakening (low-middle-high) Trancendent (quasi-low-middle-high)Commander (quasi-low-middle-high)Monarch (quasi-low-middle-high)Overlord (Quasi-Mythical) Totems (low-middle-high)Mythical Demigod Last ranking might be godly or Divine yah know xianxia style where the ending is become god..

Oh yeah, i know that now, but when you’ve just started reading it, it becomes confusing to understand that ‘totem level’ isn’t an actual level and is more of a placeholder/title. The main reason it confused me was that there was mention of ‘high-level totems’ in comparison to ‘low-level totems’ which would suggest that it is in fact an entirely different stage of power, as the novel uses low-mid-high-peak.

True the ranking system here is confusing sometimes cause most beast tamer skip peak stage and go evolve at the start of low stage at next rank considering that peak stage is next to high most others just skips it and mentions quasi and high more in the novel..

I have seen that in so many translations, I've become numb to it.

Did you noticed this happens alot more in newly translated novels? Most old novels dont have this problem. TL agency is messing up big time.
